Who are the GACHI Support
Service Specialists?
Our support service specialists are a caring, committed group
of people who work tirelessly to help individuals with hearing
loss receive the accommodations and assistance they need to enjoy
a positive quality of life.
What do they do?
Lots of things! But mainly, the GACHI support service specialists
focus on:
• Employment issues, including discrimination, work ethics and
habits and employer expectations
• Educational opportunities, such as Individualized Education
Programs (IEPs), assistive listening devices and interpreters
in the classroom
• Assisting people in need of sign language interpreting services
for hospital visits and physician’s appointments
• Social services, such as consumer credit, housing and community
resources
• Sponsoring workshops to inform others about hearing loss and
the various types of auxiliary aids available
• Legal situations, including the court and prison systems and
law enforcement
• Organizing community outreach events, many of which promote
friendship and understanding between hearing persons and people
who are deaf or hard of hearing
